TOP Soccer

TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a program for young athletes with cognitive, emotional or physical disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers.  TOPSoccer was formed in response to the US Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, in part, "to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of America's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition." There are many children with disabilities who can be provided with the opportunity to develop their physical fitness, technical skills, courage and self-esteem by playing soccer through the TOPSoccer program.

Atlanta Soccer Association TOPSoccer Mission Statement
Our TOPSoccer Program was developed and implemented for the purpose of providing athletes with special needs, a fun and safe soccer environment focusing on the player's abilities, not his/her disability. In addition to focusing on the player's abilities, we find it our priority to build the self-confidence of our special athletes. Through the TOPSoccer Program, these special young athletes feel that they are an integral part of the club. It is very important that our entire membership embrace, and become educated about Athletes with Special Needs, and experience joy that soccer brings to our special players.

The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl who has a mental or physical disability. TOPSoccer runs for eight weeks on Sundays only during the spring and fall seasons. TOPSoccer sessions take place at Metro Park on the TOPSoccer turf field and at the Paper Mill Complex. The artificial turf is friendly to wheelchairs and walkers. The spring season will be every Sunday starting March 17 with the end of the season tentatively scheduled for May 19.  Sessions begin at 1:00pm and end at 2:00pm. Tops players are divided into two groups. One actually participates in a mini "friendly" soccer game while the other group is more of a low key working on skills and just enjoying the outdoors and friends. You must register online (see below), as all communication is via broadcast email from Coach Rob, including field closings as we can play on our turf field when the other fields are closed. If you are interested in having a child participate or volunteering, it is best to just come out some Sunday and see what we do.

We do need volunteers!! If you would like to volunteer to assist in the TOPSoccer program, please contact
Rob Steers.
